Great production design is an aid to storytelling, mood, aesthetics and is an integral part of your film. Production design includes all the visual elements that make up the concept of a theater production, television program, or film.

This course provides a basic understanding of the role of the Production Designer on feature films, short films, TV, live action, animation or game design. It will explore key concepts and core skills required to really add value and visual interest to any screen story.

It will cover:

  • Research and references: The foundations of design
  • The elements and principles of Production Design.
  • How Production Design supports and enriches screen stories
  • Script analysis and Art Department Breakdowns
  • Controlling and enriching mood and tone in screen stories
  • Pre-visualisation and visual communication.

Facilitators

Ice Nweke is a multifaceted visual and performing artist with more than 15 years of creative production experience for theatrical and television shows. He is an award-winning creative director, multi-dimensional visual and VFX artist, set designer, professional dancer, and aspiring film maker. He invented “AfroTap,” a dance form that he showcased in April 2021 to an audience of 10,000 professional dancers at the TapFest Washington, DC, United States. Nigeria’s first certified Latin and Ballroom dancer, Ice Nweke has been recognized widely for his unique dance coaching and instruction styles; he currently teaches salsa on a weekly basis in Lagos, and recently completed a 17-year tenure as choreographer and dance at the Society for Performing Arts in Nigeria. His paintings have been featured in art exhibitions in Lagos and New York, and he has been commissioned by corporate and celebrity clients to do speed paintings at events. A chef and actor, Ice Nweke’s broad spectrum of talents are often heralded as “creative genius” by his media and entertainment peers. His Instagram following of more than 13,000 organic followers (as of August 2022) is testament to his dexterity as a creative.

Adetunji Adeoye is an artist, illustrator, animator, storyteller and filmmaker. His unique ability to breathe new creative life into materials and spaces has not only earned him the name “2thpick Art” it has also earned him several accolades within the industry and beyond …including the Royal African medal for Outstanding Achievement in Creative Culture from the Ooni of Ife. A graduate of the prestigious University of Ilorin with over 17 years of experience as an Art Director, Mr Adeoye has delivered projects for multiple brands across varying industries. A few of them are HBO, Samsung, Coca-cola, Parimatch, Diageo and SABMiller. He has also served as the art director for multiple award winning movies, TV series and music videos such as Hate Me by Olamide & Wande Coal, Bandana by Asake & Fireboy, The Best by Davido & Mayorkun, Woman by Rema, Inspector K (S2) Introducing the Kujus – with which he bagged a “Best Art Director” AMVC nomination.
